Refined, Not Burned: A Whole-Body Journey Through Trauma to Truth

How often have we read Scripture perhaps even studied its original context or language without stepping back to see the bigger picture?

My journey to this deeper view began over eight years ago. And it started in the most personal way: when my daughter had a nervous breakdown at the age of eight.

She was delicate, dreamy, my little fairy. But everything shifted when trauma was introduced by someone she once trusted. The aftermath included a urinary tract infection, hospitalisation, and eventually diagnoses: pyroluria, PANDAS, PTSD, and later, autism spectrum disorder.

In the thick of it, we could hardly breathe.

We went from parenting a gentle child to surviving daily episodes of Jekyll and Hyde, self-harm, and eventually suicide watch. There were moments I wondered if we’d ever see the light again.

I believe we supported her as best we could, with what little resources we had access to resources that addressed the whole person. The systems we were under felt like they did little more than medicate or blame the parents.

And while our story was intense, I know it's far from the most extreme. Yet I also know now: everything began to change with one key step environmental change.

The Spark That Changed the Fire

When you're deep in the chaos, it's hard to realise how powerful your child’s environment is. Especially when there are multiple kids in the same school, the tendency is to “push through.”

But what if the environment is the ignition the very fuel source of the fire?

Removing our daughter from that source began to cool the flames. Then, something unexpected: a single capsule of Adaptiv a natural support brought noticeable relief.

It was like a drop of water on a blaze. Small, but powerful.

While we turned to psychology, we quickly realised that traditional talk therapy often made her sit in her pain without shifting it.

It became a trap rumination that further solidified trauma as identity.

Well-meaning, yes, but unaware of the mind-body feedback loop. Trauma wasn’t just a story; it was a somatic experience. And the body was both the communicator and the receiver.

It wasn’t until 2023 that I enrolled in Embodied Processing. At first, I wanted to support her better. But I ended up facing myself. What I uncovered was humbling,

I was playing a role in her distress, reacting out of my own unresolved trauma, inherited through generations, particularly in my relationship with my mother.

As I began processing my inner terrain, it created space. It gave her room to start metabolising her own pain.

Frequency, Truth, and Comfort

We discovered frequency therapy through homeopathic scans. The emotional resonance in those scans mirrored exactly what she was feeling. She cried not from sadness alone, but from the validation.

For the first time, she could see that she wasn't making it up. Her body was telling the truth.

Frequency sessions became central to her healing. They supported her energy field, her mitochondrial function, her nervous system and ultimately her emotional stability. Today, frequency is a pillar of my own work with clients.

We are energy, and when our energy is in disharmony, it touches everything: our cells, our thinking, our emotions, even our spiritual clarity.

Breaking Patterns, Creating Pause

As I addressed root causes, limiting beliefs, emotional patterns, and ancestral pain,

I noticed the shift. I stopped reacting to her dysregulation. Instead, I began to hold space. And slowly, she began to emerge from survival mode.

The “Jekyll” moments became less frequent. Her true self—the wild, sensitive, creative soul came forward. I told her:

“Even in the wild, there is beauty to behold.”

Supporting the Terrain: Mind, Body & Spirit

I realised that if I was to fully commit to this mind-body-spirit connection, I needed to understand how it all shows up physically. This is where Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) entered our path.

Our bodies are created with profound intelligence, designed to work in balance. These minerals and elements are essential for life, yet so sensitive to trauma and stress. One mineral out of balance affects the entire terrain.

Take copper, for example. In the Bible, copper symbolises strength, endurance, purification, and judgment.

“I have refined you, but not as silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.” (Isaiah 48:10)

Copper is also implicated in pyroluria, a condition that often arises in people who’ve experienced long-term stress or trauma. It creates physiological imbalances often marked by:

  • Racing thoughts or inability to switch off

  • Mood swings, irritability, and explosive emotions

  • Overthinking and difficulty sleeping

  • Emotional rawness, social overwhelm, dreamlessness

“I am too sensitive. The world is not safe. Something must be wrong with me.”

When beliefs like these are held in the body, they become the blueprint of our inner world. And unless addressed, they keep the fire fuelled.

The Whole-Body Approach at Soulroots

This is why, at Soulroots Therapy, we don’t just focus on symptoms. We don’t isolate nutrition from emotional healing, or trauma from physiology.

It’s all connected.

We look at:

  • The emotional body through somatic work and belief clearing

  • The energetic body through frequency and field therapy

  • The physical body through nutrition, HTMA, and detox pathways

Healing isn’t about adding more it’s about releasing what is stuck. It’s about returning to balance and creating safety within, so the external world no longer sets off alarms in the nervous system.

We practitioners must resist the urge to only stay in our “niche.” True healing calls us to zoom out, to look at the terrain and the soul as a whole.

That’s where transformation lives.

And that’s why my daughter, wild beauty that she is, is still here today. Not just surviving but beginning to thrive.

“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” — Psalm 139:14
