Healing in Real Time: My Story of Vulnerability and Growth
For a lot of nights now, I’ve felt the inability to switch off,
scrolling screens until my body finally forces me to shut down.
At this point in my life, it feels essential to get better at sleep hygiene. Isn’t it like the plumber with a leaky tap?
We know what to do, but we often neglect it for ourselves.
I don’t believe this makes us any less of a therapist, but we do need to model what we preach. Too often in the natural and wellness space, I see therapists teaching one thing but living another. I really struggle with that, but I also remind myself that we all have our weaknesses.
Sometimes we’re not ready, or able, to see or face them.
Last night, I didn’t fall asleep until I sat long enough with the fear and worry that had been building within me. I realised how my own coping strategies, and other factors in my life, are taking a toll, creeping into patterns of behaviour I hadn’t fully noticed. And I think that’s the beauty of the journey I’ve been on:
the ability to witness. Not just release, not just sit with sensations, but see where beliefs and patterns are forming, letting them run in slow motion.
I feel this is why I’ve been drawn to vintage cassettes and record players, the ability to
stop, rewind, pause, skip.
It’s a metaphor for inner healing: the chance to slow down, reflect, and consciously choose how we engage with ourselves.
The moment I finally went to sleep was the moment I admitted to myself, and to my husband that I need help.
I confessed what was on my heart,
knowing my actions have been impacting not just me, but him, and our family. Even as I type this, I get emotional, not from fear, guilt, or shame, but from the knowing, the grace, and the vulnerability I felt for myself.
It gave me wings, and the intention to make change and let go of what is no longer serving me.
This is the why. It’s not about being perfect, or getting it right all the time. It’s about learning, healing, and growing in the here and now. It’s finally having the tools to work through moments as they happen, instead of revisiting them later and letting them shape or define us unnecessarily.
I’m doing it all within the present moment, step by step, breath by breath.
Gosh, I love somatic work.
Healing, as we often say, is continual.
It is not a destination but a journey.
A journey where the how we choose to heal becomes the true agent of change. It is in the process of aligning, releasing, and listening to ourselves that cycles can be broken, patterns transformed, and lives renewed.
Every thought, every word, every unspoken burden has power, it carries energy that touches more than just the self.
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).
Our lives, our inner states, and our actions ripple outward, participating in God’s creation and His intention for the world. (Colossians 1:17)
“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together”.
The energy we carry internally, whether conscious or unspoken, flows into the world around us, shaping, influencing, and reflecting His glory.
We are human, mortal, vessels carrying experiences that leave imprints, not only within ourselves but rippling outward into the world around us. Just as we are aware of environmental forces impacting the earth, we must also recognise the energetic imprints we leave.
Though invisible, they hold weight, shaping our surroundings and influencing others in ways we often cannot see.
God is all in all, present in the seen and unseen, holding all creation together.
When we carry unresolved emotions, limiting beliefs, or patterns within, they do not remain contained, they move silently through our energy, shaping our internal and external worlds.
Healing is the act of allowing God’s presence to enter, to witness, and to restore.
It is in the surrender and awareness of our inner world that transformation begins, not only for ourselves, but for the spaces and people around us.
Healing is holy, human, and practical. It is about choosing, moment by moment, to align with truth, grace, and love, knowing that every step toward wholeness ripples outward in ways we may never fully see, yet God does.
